KNOW WHAT TO DO . . .

Build or Obtain a 72-hour kit

Doctrine and Covenants 38:30

“ I tell you these things because of your prayers; wherefore, treasure up wisdom in your bosoms, lest the wickedness of men reveal these things unto you by their wickedness, in a manner which shall speak in your ears with a voice louder than that which shall shake the earth; but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear.”

Included you will find:

  • A 72- hour item list and tips that will help you be successful in
building your own 72-hour kits: 72 Hour Kit Checklist.
  • Link to the most recommended ready made 72- hour kits to buy:
  • LDS Emergency 72 Hour Kit: Sample 72 Hour Kit.
  • 72 Hour Kit: Why, Tips, What to include.
  • www.quakekare.com has very good 72 hour kits and often has sales before Christmas. It addresses food, water, shelter, lighting and communication, first aid, search and rescue, sanitation, and survival instructions for any disaster. The only thing you would need to add is food that children or babies would eat and clothing (the kits are made for adults as far as food is concerned).

Thoughts:
  • In addition you may want to Google “72 hour kit” and see what is available
  • If you shop around a little you may find that in many cases you would spend more money gathering the supplies yourself.
  • You may personalize a bought 72-hour kit to your individual needs and add certain food items or clothing you prefer.
  • Costco also sells several different kinds of 72-hour kits, they have a great gourmet food kit that could be added to the other kits for augmenting the food supply.
  • Get your whole family involved in preparing a 72 hour kit. Have a family night dedicated to that topic.

"KNOW WHAT TO DO . . ."

In recent months we requested that the  emergency response leadership team in your ward (ward coordinator, 1st aid specialist, communication specialist, chairman of the temporal and spiritual welfare committee, assistant chairman, high priest group leader, elders quorum president and the relief society president) sign up for TWITTER-TEXT; our primary source of communication in an emergency. The instructions to accomplish this are found under DOCUMENTS on this blog. It's now more important than ever because a new program will be launched in August 2011. Check under the tab "KNOW WHAT TO DO . . ." for details.

In the meantime please take the initiative in your ward to encourage each member of your emergency response team to sign up for TWITTER-TEXT by August 1 if they have not already done so.

Thanks in advance.

Twitter-Text is the primary method of one-way communication. Tweets can also be followed here under Twitter Updates. The purpose of this blog is to make emergency response tools and resources available to residents of Midway City, Charleston and Wallsburg, Utah. The Leadership List and the Emergency Response Plan are now available under "Documents". Additionally, three useful links have been added on the right-hand side of this page under "Other Helpful Emergency Preparedness Sites". During an emergency you will find information posted to this blog as well as Twitter. Check this site regularly for updates. Brian Murphy, Stake Emergency Response Coordinator (SERC)
